Grameen Foundation provides support, technical assistance and innovative technologies to microfinance programs that enable the poor, mostly women, to lift themselves out of poverty and make better lives for their families. The Grameen Technology Center ’s Village Phone initiative helps to bring sustainable and affordable telecommunications services to underserved communities throughout the developing world by empowering local entrepreneurs to establish community-based, income generating shared access telephone businesses.  

Summary: Using his/her best skills and attention, Intern will develop a database solution designed to assist in the assessment of Village Phone related usage data and the reporting there of.  The solution will use the most appropriate technologies to meet the scalability and portability needs of Village Phone initiatives around the world.  

Reporting and Relationships:  The Intern will report to the Program Manager, Village Technology.

Availability: The duration of the internship will be three months and is located in Washington , DC . At the beginning of the Agreement, Intern will provide GF with a rough schedule estimate for the tasks covered by the Agreement based on existing timeline projections.  At the end of each week, Intern will revise estimates based on the prior week’s activities. Grameen Foundation will revise priorities for work based on initial and revised estimates.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with Program Manager to develop the solution based on current design specifications
  • Work with volunteer developers to build database, user interaction, and report solution that enables the import of appropriate data, report generation, and export of appropriate data in agreed upon format(s)
  • Develop solution package for deployment
  • Test the solution and bug fix as necessary to ensure stable live deployment
  • Fully document the solution to enable ongoing support and future development as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to write SQL queries (preferably Transact SQL)
  • Able to use Reporting Services & SQL Management Studio
  • Experience developing code using C#
  • Experience developing code using MicroSoft JScript
  • Understand Data Warehousing concepts
  • Ability to develop web based database projects using Visual Studio (VS)

Education and Experience

  • Graduate or student presently majoring in an IT-related field
  • Work experience preferred but relevant programming experience more important
